Special Message
Record a private message from the bride and groom and have it played over an instrumental piece of music during the first dance or the cake cutting.
This also works well with a slow and romantic song, which your DJ can dedicate to everyone present who’s in love.
Guests Sing a Song
If one of your guests is an “idol” he can sing a special song dedicated to the bride and groom. However, incorporating karaoke into your reception activities is not recommended-it can be a bit tacky if not done right!
And your inebriated Uncle Bob might not want to give up the mic.
Theme Music for Entrance
Add your own favourite TV or movie theme music at some point during your reception. This can be part of the bridal party introduction, or you can use it to herald your other events such as the cake cutting or games.
Dollar Dance
If dollar dances are traditional in your region, then by all means have one at your wedding. Your DJ will know what type of song to play. You can have the traditional type, with the bride and groom dancing for a brief time with each guest who pays a dollar-and who also gets a small drink of a beverage.
Many people make a game out of the dollar dance. You might ask the ushers and bridesmaids to dance among the guests doing the Chicken Dance, collecting dollars.
Others prefer to forego the tradition of collecting money from their guests-but you can still do this dance by having people write down their good wishes for you instead of giving you money.
They can put the slips of paper with wishes on them into a box and have their brief dance with you. Later, you will enjoy reading these good wishes from your guests.
Streamer Exit
As the bride and groom depart, it’s fun to give rolls of streamers to the guests, which they can unfurl as you pass through the arch during the Grand Finale.
Slideshow and Video Show
A video montage, PowerPoint presentation, or Image slideshow can be played at some point during the reception.
They are gaining in popularity, and it’s a way to show the chronology of your relationship to your guests.
During dinner is a good time; it should last between five to ten minutes, and you can even set it up for looped playing. Image slideshows that are looped can run all night after the bridal dance.
Goldfish Wedding Ideas
Original centrepiece ideas are always welcome. A wonderful new idea is a bowl containing one or two goldfish as the table centrepiece. You can also use a taller vase that holds a Beta fish with a water flower floating on top.
These make great conversation, but you have to manage them carefully to maintain fish safety.
Other Entertainment
Whatever extra entertainment you consider, make sure it is performed at the right time during your reception.
And, as with everything else, it should reflect your own personal style. Entertainment options to consider include…

A Backup Plan if Your Wedding Entertainment Fails
Nobody likes to think of disaster on their wedding day.

But the unexpected does occur.
What can you do if your wedding entertainment or DJ can’t make it? Something could happen like…
• Sickness or Accident
• Equipment Failure
• Total inexperience-he shows up but has no idea how to create a party, and he’s nothing like you expected?
Hey… It happens and it could happen at your wedding. When you hire your DJ, ask him if he has backup gear in the event of equipment breakdown.
Does he bring it with him?
If not, how far away is it?
If he becomes dreadfully ill on your wedding day, does he have an associate who is willing and available to fill the void?
These are vital questions to ask when you book your entertainment because…
No Music = No Fun.
What if you and your friends have to figure out an entertainment solution?
Wedding Music Backup Plan
One of the simplest options is have an iPod with at least three to four hours of Easy Listening music and three to four hours of solid dancing songs, already loaded and ready to go.
Prepare for this contingency ahead of your wedding. The two of you can do this alone, or make a party of it with your attendants.
Create your playlists on your iPods or MAC / Notebook Computer.
Assign one group to create a playlist for Easy Listening music, and the other group can put together a playlist for dance songs.
From these lists you can burn as many CDs as you need to cover your reception.
There are some tips for mixing genres and beats that will help you create a more interesting mix for the guests.
The first is to play two or three songs from one genre before switching to another.
From my experience as a DJ attending many, many weddings, believe me when I tell you: The same genre played for a long time can get a little repetitive for your diverse generation of guests.
Besides the genre, it’s also a good idea to change the tempo about every three or four songs. Different genres typically play at different beats per minute.
Start with some slower standards or even Rhythm & Blues, which plays at around 90 beats per minute. Most Pop songs play at 125-140 beats per minute, which just happens to be the same as the average human heart rate during exercise such as -guess what- dancing!
Your guests will move onto and off of the dance floor every three or four songs, to take a breather or get a drink. The tempo of the music serves as a subconscious signal to people. The trick is to start with the slower music and then boost the tempo every three or four songs.
Eventually you’ll reach a pounding, fast beat-double the speed of RnB then you drop it back down again.
This is something a professional DJ knows how to do.
And only a professional knows how to work the crowd, when to interject comments and how to introduce segments of your wedding.
But if you’re preparing for emergencies, then pay attention to this as you put your own playlist together.
These playlist/s won’t do you any good if you don’t have a first-rate way to play them.
So the second thing you need is a sound system.
You could get away with a decent home sound system, but I very strongly recommend hiring some professional equipment.
You should choose something like a couple of Mackie Powered SRM450’s or JBL EON G2 Speakers with a small mixer also.
You don’t need to worry about extraneous equipment such as speaker stands and so forth. You’ll only be using this as a backup plan if worst comes to worst.
You can place these speakers on the floor.
You will need a few cables and an RCA to 3.5mm jack to hook your ipod/music player to the mixer.
A sound equipment hire store will be able to provide all of this for you. If your venue does not have an in-house microphone, we suggest renting a Microphone also.
The cost of this depends on how resourceful you are, but you may be able to “borrow” an iPod and sound system from one of your guests to save even more dollars.
It’s important to test the backup system at your home a few days before or at least have one of your guests test it.
If you’ve hired a solid and reliable DJ or band that you have 100% faith in, then use your best judgment.
If you’re not so sure…implement the “No Worries Backup Plan”
In case you’re wondering, it is possible to iPod a Wedding in Full, but we generally do not recommend it over using a “real human” entertainer.
A good DJ or band will be able to pick up on your guests’ vibe and turn that into a great celebration.
It takes a professional to know the right songs to match the vibe. An iPod, jukebox or computer will never be able to do that.

Tips for Listening to Your Wedding Songs & Building a Playlist
It’s a lot of fun to pick out the songs that you’ll play for all of your wedding traditions.
The two of you will be thinking of the songs you’ve had as favourites all of your lives, or the songs that mark your special moments. So how do you make your choices?
There is a simple and easy way to listen to your songs in full before you buy them on CD or from iTunes. Most of you already know about this place-but, for the less internet savvy people, it’s…
YouTube!
All you do is type the name of the song and the artist into the YouTube search bar.
You’ll find that most of the time someone has posted a clip with lyrics, or you may even find the original “official” video clip to the song.
It’s also an opportunity to give covers by other artists a listen.
Although some songs may not play with top quality sound, you will be able to listen to the entire song, in most cases.
This is an advantage over iTunes or Amazon, where you get only a thirty second sample-which might not be enough to determine if that song is the right one for your wedding tradition.
Update as of 2013 – iTunes now offers a listen of up to a minute and half on most songs.
Finding Lyrics to Your Songs
You can also find the lyrics for just about any song that’s ever been commercially released. It’s as simple as listening to it on YouTube.
Getting to know the lyrics for say your first dance is extremely important as you most likely want them to be optimistic.
Some songs have great music for a first dance but the lyrics may be inappropriate for the occasion or taint the great music.
Just go to your Google search bar and type the song’s title and artist, followed by the word “lyrics,” into Google. If you’re an internet novice, you’ll find this is very easy, and 99% of the time you will go straight to the lyrics you’re seeking.

Getting Your Songs onto CD
Most engaged couples want to assemble all their favourite songs onto one CD.
Some newlyweds just love to have a wedding music CD so they can listen to the songs that have meaning for them any time they wish.
Others decide to go all out with this and create music CDs as wedding favours for their guests – which does have copyright implications!
The first step is sourcing your music and the easiest, legal way to do this is to install iTunes. If you haven’t already installed it, it’s available here:

iTunes lets you listen to a clean thirty second sample of each song. The cost of the full song is only $1.69 each in Australia or 99 cents in the U.S., with comparable prices in other countries.
In 2009 Apple began offering DRM-free songs for $1.29 (U.S. dollars). That means you can purchase higher quality downloads without being restricted on the number or types of devices that you can use for song play.
While iTunes fully expects at least half of its five-million-song library to be DRM-free possibly by the time you read this, the less expensive versions will still be available.
Whichever version you choose, once you have purchased your music you can then easily burn it onto an Audio CD (within iTunes). This makes it playable in any CD player.
Important iTunes CD Burning Tip
TIP – Tick the option to “Include CD TEXT” data to Audio CD in the iTunes Preferences -> Advanced -> Burning section.
This will allow your Mp3 Ripping software to pickup up the Track Name & Title information from the CD so you do not have to type it out again!
One thing to note with iTunes and most other legal song download sites, is songs from some major artists such as ACDC, etc., are not available for download as of yet.
The record companies have not released the digital download versions. So you will have to buy these songs on CD…
Once you have all your songs, either on an iTunes backup CD-and it makes sense to back-up your purchases in any event-or an original purchased CD, you can then format shift (rip) these back into an MP3 format.

How you categorise your music is really up to you. Software which will help with your MP3 tags (this is information to categorise your MP3’s) and sorting is Tagsmart.
Get into the habit of adding the correct tags early to your MP3’s in your database-building days.
Before you realize it your collection will have grown quite large, and adding the tags will be a headache. Do it now, and this will save you a lot of time in years to come.

Tips for Finding the Perfect Wedding Dress
Where do you start when choosing a Wedding Dress?
Designer, one off, custom made, vintage, passed down through the family or off the rack. It’s a special decision, very personal and important.
Once you have decided your Wedding Date, you know how much time you have to get your dress and consider what your dress budget will be; some dress’s can start from $400 up to $5000 or more
Traditionally the Wedding Dress is White, also including creams, ivory’s, eggshells and ecru. Consisting of main dress, train, tiara and veil.
Today anything goes, colour, style, shape depending on your religious/cultural background or Wedding themed choice.
Start a folder of clipping and cut outs of Wedding outfits to get a visual of what you are looking for.Yes – A Vision Board!
This will help if you intend to get a dress custom made or pre- made off the rack, you can discuss the dress better when you can see what you are wanting.
Getting a family member, friend or bridesmaid to help you choose a dress can be a great way to give you feed back and their first impression of you in the dress. (Not too many people at once as it may be too loud and confusing at the fitting)
When going to a fitting you may have to make appointment or try to go on a weekday when it’s not so busy. Wear your hair in a style similar to how it will be on your wedding day, up or down for example to get a visual of the whole look.
Wear correct underwear and shoes that will be similar to what you are wearing on the day.
Keeping an open mind when you are trying on dresses is best, they will look very different on the rack as when on your body.
Try on a few styles and different shapes to see what best suits your body figure and shape. There are five basic shapes, silhouettes to consider, A line, empire line, traditional ball gown, mermaid and princess line. Remember to feel comfortable in your dress, you will have to sit, stand and enjoy yourself in your dress.
Try not to rush into getting anything unless it’s perfect for you. If you try on too many dresses in one day you may be overwhelmed. Take your time and do it over a few weeks, unless of course you find the perfect dress, then don’t hesitate and purchase it or place a deposit on it.
Fabrics are also a big decision in the Wedding dress choice. If you are buying pre-made, check the fabrics suitability, summer or winter depending on your wedding date etc. If you are getting your dress custom made, discuss your style with your dress maker and they will be able to recommend what are the best suitable fabrics and where to purchase them.
Also considering your bridesmaids at this time is a good idea, as some fabrics are seasonal and not readily available, you may want to purchase them at the same time.

Now, the trick is that you really don’t want to toss away the beautiful bouquet that you chose to walk up the aisle. And there’s a less expensive alternative to paying the florist for a throwaway bouquet. Instead, get one of your older female relatives like a great auntie to make a bouquet with flowers made out of tissue paper.
It’s a way to give one of your older relatives some recognition for a role in the wedding—you can thank her in your wedding program for creating the beautiful throwaway bouquet.
2.    Honour Someone Special
Use your bouquet toss to single out someone really special to you. You and your groom can discuss this together, because it can be someone on either side of your families. If there’s a special lady out there, perhaps someone who has been like another mother to one of you, someone who has achieved something recently or overcome an illness, or perhaps a great-grandmother, awarding her the bouquet would be a gracious gesture.
Your wedding DJ will know the perfect way to announce this event and introduce the lady in question. An alternative option is to hold an anniversary dance. This is when all married couples are called to the dance floor, and the DJ calls for those who have been married less than a year, up to five years, up to 10 years, and so on, to be seated. The last couple standing will be the couple married the longest, and you can give them the bouquet.
3.    Make It a Ladies Special
